ABOUT LAYABOUTS

ENG

A transdisciplinary team at the Tomas Bata University in Zlin was led by Michael Vasku to create an exhibition, which brings the concept of wellness and home together. Traditional central European stoves inspired this design. In Czech Republic they have

a special word for a lazy person – “pecivál”. It literally means a person who lies

down on a masonry stove and does nothing. Masonry stoves were historically the centre of every household. They provided warmth, it was a place to cook and even a place

to sleep, all the family life happened around a stove. Therefore masonry stove

is a centrepiece of this installation.

On the one hand the exhibition’s aim

is to provide a glimpse of that feeling to the visitors in Milan. On the other hand it should inspire them to be a little lazy in that hectic atmosphere of Milan Design Week.

Generally the exhibition evokes the question whether a little more laziness wouldn’t make us a little healthier and happier? This happens of course only if one does not regret but really enjoys the time when

he is a layabout. The presented exhibits

are concepts of products, which help

to consciously enjoy laziness for the purpose of regeneration.
